Guilt, Innocence, and the Moral Compass
Essential Questions:
1. Is guilt a greater punishment than a punishment doled by society?
2. What is the locus of guilt and how do people's responses differ?
3. Does society react appropriately to crime and criminals?
4. Is innocence the same as the absence of guilt?
5. Do social influences or free will play a greater role in the creation and execution of criminal acts?
6. In which social contexts are guilty actions justifiable and rational?

Assignments:
Poetry Passport Project- Travel the world through poetry. Create a poetry passport (see Google images, or, if you have one, your own passport in order to create this project). Use the Literature textbook and online resources to identify author's across the world. Items to include in your passport: 1. The poem and author, 2. Location, 3. Brief history and background surrounding the time of the poem/poet, 4. Analysis of one stylistic feature or literary device used throughout, 5. Reflection on the purpose of the poem (3-5 sentences), 6. A mini map of the world with the places you visited marked appropriately

Africa- 3 different locations
Canada
Hawaii

Japan
Vietnam
Philippines
India
Middle East- 3 different locations
South America
Europe- 4 different locations
You should have between 18-20 poems in your passport. You may travel solo or with a partner. Should you travel with a partner, you MUST have your own analysis and reflection.
